I enjoyed my stay and was completely relaxed. I recommend this

Kind employees. Great location. quiet room I had enough space in the room. Very calm environment.

The towels were stained and the room door did not have a proper lock. But I was safe. The bathtub was not completely clean! The quality and variety of breakfast could be better.

Convenient location, friendly staff,, needs updating.

Location was good. Up a hill, but that walks off the food from the nearby, plentiful restaurants. Staff were very nice. Breakfast was adequate, but not sure what one is supposed to do with raw oats and cornflakes as the cereals. We pretty much had the small rooftop pool to ourselves. Something to sit on would have been nice.

The bathroom especially was old and not in a good condition, though it was clean. Very low water pressure at times.

Nice old building with great view and very friendly staff but needs some improvements

The location is great, it’s easy to find a parking spot, you can walk to downtown and to lots of restaurants, the view is great. The pool is nice. The bar ist great to enjoy the evenings. The rooms are quite old but have this old building Charme. They are quite spacious and well furnished. Cleaning was done daily and was okay.

It was not able to close the door to the bathroom at all. You really had to slam it for it to get stuck and then you had to use a lot of force to open it again. Even then it didn’t close all the way. The pool was a bit dirty and there are no loungers or the like at the pool. The breakfast was a big disappointment. Very simple food, not the best quality and not a lot of choice. Some days seemed like the only served left overs. They tried to serve fruits but they weren’t fresh. Coffee was honestly unfortunately disgusting.

Great value for money, clean and tidy with friendly staff.

The view was amasing we was promise sea view and we got it, the breakfast was acceptable it would have been nice to have fresh juices. The reception staff was very helpful and could not do enough. The swiming pool area was clean and nice. Room sevice change the bath towels every day and clean and made up the beds

Beautiful but difficult

The staff was lovely and the views were gorgeous. Dinner's at the hotel were good as well and were good price

Lack of air conditioning or even good sized fans in the rooms as well as in the breakfast room and other places in the hotel. Lack of shade or comfortable lounging furniture near the pool. Lack of Wi-Fi in the rooms. To get anywhere from this hotel is a pretty steep climb.

Very nice, but shows it's age here and there.

Very spacious rooms with cozy island ambience. Love the wicker furniture. Only tried breakfast sadly. Lunch and dinner menu seemed good but ended up eating elsewhere. Breakfast was only fresh and good tasting stuff. Been in places with more variety sure. But also been in more expensive places that served spoiled food! Not in Monte Carlo! Love the swing and pool area. So quiet and peaceful. Didn't see any mosquitos and normally I'm a mosquito trap! Didn't spent much time on it (short stay) but the library looked inviting!

Some improvement are necessary as there is a few places that are in need of renovating... Certainly they'll be improving slowly as not to close completely. It's quite central but the walk uphill from Funchal can be challenging. Taxis aren't that expensive, it's best to take one if you're carrying bags/luggage. Wi-fi is only available in common rooms. It's good for a tech detox, though!

It has an amazing view, good location, it takes around 10 minutes from the city center by walking, the stuffs were kind.

There was a strong smell of damp in my room. Because it was an old building. Maybe it is time to do some alteration for some rooms.

Hotel needs updating but lovely staff

The staff were lovely and so helpful (particularly Marcia!) It also has amazing views and the pool at the top was lovely to sit round when the sun was setting

The hotel is incredibly dated and needs some tlc and money put into it. The rooms are noisy with paper thin walls so we didn't sleep great.

Very pleasurable stay , brilliant friendly staff .

I got a nice budget room , need a bit of cosmic touch’s to bring it up . But it is a period build . The roof top pool was nice to . I never swam as I went in December. Staff were really friendly and were always happy to assist and help . The views are breathtaking from the pool to the harbour .They have 12 check out which can be a great advantage for late afternoon/ early evening flights .

Again no fault of the hotel but it’s very steep to get there . But as I said no fault of the hotel Funchal has changed so much since that was built . But that’s out of the hotel hands , apparently there’s a mini bus up and down to the Marina but I never used it as I was out early and back quite late .

The hotel will appeal to those who like to feel like a James Bond movie character - a building with its own history and old-fashioned charm. It's definitely worth staying and enjoying it - it's definitely not like all the other copy-paste boring hotel rooms. Views from the window - breathtaking, even from the bathroom window! I recommend it to those who like historical heritage and understand its value. Parking was available right in the hotel area (for an additional fee). The staff was very kind with caring and helpful attitude. And the manager of the hotel is a fantastic lady! :)

I liked mostly everything, so it was easy to overlook the various wear details. If this hotel could be renovated a little more, it would definitely be a gem! Breakfast was normal, very simple, but it was basically enough

A hotel with a view to die for.

The views over Funchal are fantastic and the old school charm of the hotel itself is very good. The staff and Rita are pretty good.

Needs a little upgrade but still maintain the old charm.

Location, view from teracce, stuff was very helpfull and nice. Hotel is just 1 km far by walk from city center. The bar is also open till midnight and they serve good drinks. Also parking was beyound expectation as there is officially no parking. Parking is available for 4 cars.

Breakfast was mostly without any vegetables. No A/C in rooms, the mattresses were too hard.

Lovely views shame about facilities

The views were great from the room I had

So many things even bars holding the carpet on the stairs need repairing, its a tired building in need of some TLC. You couldn't get an iron to iron your clothes? Not even 1 in the hotel. Roof top pool and no sunbeds to lie out? Just a few chairs a couple were broken with odd cushions just a bit strange. The bar didn't open until 4pm so couldn't even get a drink on arrival. Food menu basic but reasonably priced. Definitely would suit people on a walking trip to Madeira certainly not for frills and any luxury.
